Saving PDFs with layers

The Saving PDFs with layers Addin provides the ability to generate a PDF file directly from the 3D design software’s workshop drawing environment, containing the layers created in the 2D environment.

We often encounter a design task where we need to insert engineering elements into an architectural drawing, and usually design companies are forced to buy some kind of DWG compatible software to do this. 3D design software is basically not designed to produce 2D drawings, but it is possible to import DWG files and produce 2D layout drawings. It is possible to create any number of layers, so that the drawing elements belonging to that layer appear separately on each layer. We even have the possibility to manage the “lines” of the views generated from the 3D models on the layer associated to the part. The use of layers is a good way of switching them on and off to get a clearer view of your workshop drawing.

Unfortunately, there is still a widespread perception that we do not trust the 2D capabilities of our existing 3D design software, often citing compatibility issues. This is sometimes understandable, sometimes questionable. There is certainly one advantage to using the existing 3D design software to handle 2D layout drawings, and that is that we have it, we don’t need to use other software alongside it.

Based on specific user demand, we have developed the ability to save existing 2D layout drawings directly to PDF format with the layers that are on the 2D layout drawing, under Solid Edge and SOLIDWORKS design software. This keeps the layers in and out of the PDF files easily manageable with Acrobat Reader.
